Position held: Freelance Accessibility Copywriter

Project One:

Brief 1:

Initially, I was hired by Soho House to work on a short accessibility copywriting project. As the company was taking steps to better meet the WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards, they needed the alt-text written for around 6000 images on all of their site’s websites for screen reading software.

Result:

The key element to the brief was to ensure the alt-text was accessible but also on brand. An interesting aside to it was making sure that I was meeting continental standards as, for example the USA, have slightly differing compliance rules then the UK. The job was estimated to run for 2 months but I completed the job in 6 weeks for the client.

Project Two:

Brief 2:

Shortly after, I was hired by Soho House again to work on another international accessibility project. This time I was required to project manage the creation of Accessibility Standard documents for each of the 50 Soho House sites across the world.

Result:

After researching building and safety accessibility, I drew up a report which was sent to each of the sites asking what facilities they currently had. I was then able to draft final versions for each of the Accessibility Standards documents. It was an important project for the company because it not only enabled them to communicate how they were meeting the standards, but also gave them a good idea of any gaps.
